After hearing of the death of Judy Tyler, costar in Jailhouse Rock, Elvis showed up at George Klein's house early in the morning.

July 7 Elvis was introduced to Anita Wood by George Klein.
July 8

Elvis went on his first date with Anita Wood, but all the boys went along.

July 10

Elvis took his parents and Anita Wood to a private midnight screening of Loving You.

July 13 Anita Wood had dinner at Graceland with Elvis and his parents.
August 8

Elvis took Venetia Stevenson, an actress, Lamar Fike, George Klein, and some others to the Memphis Fairgrounds and then to a private midnight showing of Loving You at the Strand.

August 14

Elvis received a phone call from James Savery about plans for the Elvis Presley Youth Center in Tupelo.

August 15

Elvis asked Steve Sholes to hire Millie Kirkham for his next session.

August 22

Elvis bought tow stone lions and had them installed on either side of the steps leading up to Graceland.

August 27

Elvis left by train for the West Coast at 11.00 p.m.

August 29

Elvis arrived in Spokane, Washington at 11.20 p.m. for the beginning of a tour, managed by Al Dvorin.

August 30

Elvis performed at the Memorial Stadium, Spokane, Washington. Elvis entered the stadium in a Cadillac through lines of police guards. He performed 18 songs.

August 31

Elvis performed at the Empire Stadium, Vancouver, British Columbia.

September 1

Elvis performed at the Lincoln Bowl, Tacoma, Washington at 2.00 p.m. Later that day he performed at 10.00 p.m. at the Sick's Stadium, Seattle, Washington. Elvis gave a 30 minute show in front of 15,000 fans. In addition to his own hits he sung Fool's Hall Of Fame, which was a new Sun release by Rudi Richardson. Elvis told the crowd this would be his new single, but in fact he never recorded it.

September 2

Elvis performed at the Multnomah Stadium, Portland, Oregon. In an interview before the show Elvis told the reporters: " There's nothing more important than love and marriage. I do think that marriage would hurt my career now, though."  Elvis actually performed 40 minutes, however there were nearly riots and the police had to act on the crowd.

September 3 Elvis went from Portland to Los Angeles by train, where he checked into the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
September 5

Elvis made a start with his Christmas album which Steve Sholes wanted for some time now. This all took place at Radio Recorders and he also recorded 3 songs for single release. Including Treal Me Nice. The regular Hollywood musicians were joined by Millie Kirkham and the Jordanaires from 12.00 to 8.00 p.m.

September 6

Elvis went to Radio Recorders again at noon, where he worked on Christmas songs for his new album. At the end of the session at 8.00 p.m. he sung Don't.

September 7

There was another session at the Radio Recorders from noon till 8.00 p.m. However there was still one song for the new Christmas album missing, so Leiber and Stoller wrote a new one. This was the bluesy song: Santa Claus Is Back In Town, which Elvis liked very much.
There were plans made for recording some instrumental tracks by Scotty, Bill and D.J. at the end of the session. Elvis even suggested he would join them as a piano man. However at the end of the session there was not enough time left and Elvis said or did nothing for Scotty, Bill and D.J. This made Scotty and Bill write a letter of resignation and they expressed their long-held feelings of resentment towards Elvis. D.J. declined to go along with them. This all gave some bitterness on both sides.

September 8

Elvis and Anita Wood had breakfast at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and after that they visited Radio Recorders to listen to the songs Elvis had been recording over the last few days.  Later they watched 4 movies at the theaters around town, while talking about screening Jailhouse Rock the next day.

September 9

Elvis and Anita Wood took a train to Memphis.

September 11

Elvis went home by train, but in Houston he got out and drove the rest to Memphis. He arrived home at 10.00 p.m.

September 12

Elvis called Scotty to talk about his resignation and Bill's. Elvis asked what he had to do to get them both back. Since Scotty had a lot of debts, he asked for a $50 per week raise and an amount of $10,000 at once.

September 13 Scotty Moore was quoted in the Memphis Press Scimitar: "Elvis promised us that the more he made the more we would make. But it hasn't worked out that way."
September 14

Scotty was quoted in the newspaper the other day, about his earnings. Elvis responded to Scotty's statement through an open letter in the same newspaper: "If you had come to me we would have worked things out. But you went to the papers and tried to make me look bad.. All I can say to you is "good luck".

September 17

Elvis visited Dewey Philips at WHBQ.

September 18

Hank Garland, a 26 guitar player, who had been working in Nashville signed on as Elvis new guitar player and Vernon Presley sent Scotty and Bill their final payment. Their resignation was accepted as of September 21.

September 20

Elvis appeared on Memphis television station WKNO to promote traffic safety and driver education.

September 26 Elvis and some friends spent the evening at the Fairgrounds, attracting a huge crowd.
September 27

Elvis drove to Tupelo with Anita Wood and his parents and some friends. In the local paper Elvis was called "the best ambassador any town could have" and urged all townspeople to give him a warm welcome. Elvis performed at the Fairgrounds, Tupelo, for the benefit of the planned Elvis Presley Youth Center. There was a crowd of 12,000 people and he was accompanied by Hank Garland, D.J. Fontana and Chuck Wiggington, a friend of D.J., on bass.

October 1

Elvis appeared on a WMCT radio and TV fund raising event in Memphis, where he told the audience that the shooting of his next movie would begin on October 30. He didn't sing here.

October 2

Elvis watched a special screening of Jailhouse Rock accompanied by his parents.

October 7

Elvis went to see wrestling matches at Ellis Auditorium. After that he had dinner with Penny Banner, one of the lady wrestlers, whom he took back to Graceland afterwards.

October 11

Elvis drove to Madison to confer with the Colonel.

October 12

Elvis left Memphis for a Las Vegas vacation. He stayed at the Sahara Hotel and dated the exotic dancer Tempest Storm.

October 26

Elvis performed at the Civis Auditorium, san Francisco, California at 3.00 and 8.15 p.m.

October 27

Elvis performed at the Oakland Auditorium, Oakland, California.

October 28

Elvis performed at the Pan Pacific Auditorium, Los Angeles, California and outraged not only the press, but also an audience filled with Hollywood celebrities and their children. The headlines declared: Elvis Presley Will Have to Clean Up His Show Or Go To Jail. Even the Colonel was warned about consequences, but Elvis remained unfazed. He just said: "if I don't dance tonight, maybe I don't have to take a shower tonight".  Elvis wrote a letter to Anita Wood, describing himself as "a little lonely boy 5000 miles away". Obviously very home sick Elvis continued: " one in fact who would never love anyone in his life as he loved her and who looks forward to their marriage and a little Elvis ".

October 29

Elvis performed at the Pan Pacific Auditorium, Los Angeles. His show was filmed by the police, just to make sure it passed scrutiny.
After the show Elvis met Ricky Nelson.

November 5

Elvis sailed for Honolulu on the USS Matsonia.

November 8

From the ship the USS Matsonia, on his way to Honolulu, Elvis telegrammed the Honolulu Star: "Aloha, very enjoyable trip. Sunbathing, swimming, tennis, reading."

November 9

After a sail of 4 days, Elvis arrived in Honolulu. There was a press conference and then Elvis checked into the Hawaiian Village Hotel. Later that day the Jordanaires arrived by plane.

November 10

Elvis performed at he Honolulu Stadium, at 3.00 and 8.15 p.m. The shows were attended by more then 14,000 fans.

November 11

Elvis performed at the Schofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This was Elvis last performance before he entered the army. The show was not only for service personnel and their families.

November 13

Elvis sailed for Los Angeles on the USS Lurline. He left at 4.00 p.m.

November 18 Elvis left for Las Vegas, where he met singer Kitty Dolan.
November 24

Elvis was home in Memphis. There was some trouble with the gate when Elvis and his friends wanted to go out for the night, so they all had to climb over the wall.

November 28

Elvis went to see April Love at the Loew's Palace: the latest Pat Boone movie.

December 1

Elvis donated $1,050 so that all 1,400 Humes High School students could go to the annual E.H. Crump Memorial Football Game for the Blind.

December 6

Again Elvis visited the WDIA Goodwill Review (a radio station) and again he was a warmly greeted visitor. He had his picture taken with his heroes, Little Junior Parker and Bobby Bland. The next day Elvis was quoted in the press: "their music is the real thing. Right from the heart."

December 16

Elvis bought the Santa sleigh and 8 reindeer for $300 from Bain Sigh Company in Memphis. They are still displayed on the Graceland lawn every year.

December 19

Elvis received an informal word from Memphis draft board chairman Milton Bowers, that his induction notice had been drawn and was waiting for him.

December 20

Elvis picked up his draft notice and went to Sun Records. In the evening Elvis left for Nashville to deliver the Colonel's Christmas present in person: a red Isetta sports car.

December 21 After visiting and conferring with the Colonel, Elvis attended the Grand Ole Opry, accompanied by Gordon Stoker, who took him to a clothing store where he purchased a tuxedo for the evening. Elvis spent the evening chatting with performers backstage and even made a brief appearance to wave at the audience. Before he left for Memphis he changed back into his old clothes and threw the tuxedo in the trash
December 24

Elvis wrote a letter to the Memphis Draft Board to request officially a deferment for the filming of his new motion picture: " so these folks will not lose so much money, with all they have done so far."

December 25 Elvis spent Christmas at Graceland with his parents.
December 26 Elvis received a deferment from the Draft Board until March 20, 1958.
December 28

Elvis rented the Rainbow Rollerdrome for the evening.
